Floating shelves and a DIY chalkboard

I was feeling up for a challenge and I had a couple of bare walls in my kitchen. We badly needed some storage on the one side and I've always wanted a nice framed chalkboard so one weekend in July, I made this happen.

I found this great frame at the restore and it was already painted white. I found some pegboard at Home Depot and painted 3 coats of chalkboard paint on it. I used finishing nails to tack it inside the frame and voilà!

For the floating shelves I followed this great tutorial online, but changed the measurements to suit my space. I wanted them to be a bit thicker, longer and a bit more narrow.

I used a denim oil stain and I'm considering using a dark oak stain overtop to cover up the shocking blue colour, but it's growing on me so I may not!

Here are some pictures I took along the way!

Aren't they great?

Stay crafty my friends,

Adelle
